See below for upcoming classes, trainings, and workshops available from the Children’s Advocacy Center and Seeds Community Center. Classes and materials are free. Foster parents may earn education hours. Providers are always welcome to attend. 

Parent Cafes

Wednesday, June 17th:  10am-12pm or 5:30pm-7:30pm

The Be Strong Parent Cafes are safe spaces where people can talk and listen to each other about the challenges and joys of raising a family. Join for good food and conversation. Plus, receive a Starbucks Gift Card for attending.

Summer Kinship Dinner- June

Thursday, June 18th:  6pm-8pm  |  Seeds Community Center, 5005 E. Winsett St.

SCC will be partnering with LPKNC as they present “Healthy Habits for Kids.”  Learn practical strategies and information about how caregivers can instill healthy habits for the kids in their care.  As always, SCC free dinner and childcare will be provided!  LPKNC will provide free take-home informational resources to all participants (available in English and Spanish).

In six 2-hour sessions, you will learn about Styles of Parenting, Mutual Respect, Owning the Problem, Active Communication, Encouragement, Logical Consequences, Problem Solving, Building Courage & Self-Esteem, Eliminating Power Struggles, Drugs, Sexuality, Violence and so much more! We offer dinner and child care!

STEP: Strengthening Families Program
Adapted for Parents & Caregivers Raising children with Trauma

Tuesdays from 9:30am-11:00am or 5:30pm-7:30pm.

This program is designed to support parents, improve family relationships, and reduce problem behaviors, delinquency and alcohol and drug abuse. There are MULTIPLE dates available and classes are offered both in-person and online.

STEP: Book Club. What Happened to You?
Conversations on Trauma, Resilience, and Healing 

Thursdays from 9:30am-11:30am.

Each session includes icebreakers, chapter reflections, trauma-informed parenting approaches, and how the five Protective Factors strengthen families. Video clips and small-group activities enhance main ideas from each chapter.

Financial Assistance for Home Energy Bills

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is a federally funded program that helps low income households pay their heating/cooling bills, minimize crises, and make energy costs more affordable. 

Power AZ is a state program that expands eligibility beyond LIHEAP income limits making this critical resource even more accessible to working families. Click HEREfor more information on both programs.

Summer Childcare Scholarship for Kinship Youth

Kinship youth deserve the chance to explore their talents and interests through extracurricular activities. Whether they want to join the school football team, music lessons, or try ballet classes, the Enrichment Matters Scholarship can help cover the costs and get them connected. And for our younger friends, the Enrichment Matters Scholarship can also cover things like mommy & me classes or memberships to the zoo, WildKats, or the Children’s Museum.
